The opening sequence of The Bourne Identity starts off by setting the scene, you can hear non-diegetic sounds as the camera slowly pans into the boat. Starting off the film at night time i with the rain and the thunder and lighting tells me straight away that this is going to be a darker film. With the establishing shot of what appears to be a body in the water shows that maybe someone has died or gone over board as we soon are moved back to the boat there is continuity editing in between both the sea shot with the man over board or object and with the boat with the sailors playing cards, the camera helps remind you that your on a boat in the middle of a storm by rocking in a very boat like manner, this is important as it adds to the effect of the build up to finding out what this object floating in the water may be.
The text for the film first appears as though a computer was typing it, it connotes that it is a thriller, its quickly typed so it showed urgency and importance like a detective message would.
The next title you see is the actual title of the film which is different from the Rom-Com's i have been looking at because there film title is normally a lot later on, this shows that with this film its fast paced and straight to the point. The boat scene disappears and there is just a black screen and the writing merges together from the left and right to form the word "The Bourne identity"
The writing then zooms and expands towards the screen to emphasize the titles they then break and leave the screen at the left and right.
They manage to rescue the body and it comes apparent that they are from another country that also makes it seem more intense because now as the audience you are unsure where about you are all you know is that they have found this body that could be link to the leading role or could be the leading roll. All the work men on the boat are rushing around trying to help this dead body it would seem from the ocean at night time is where you see the difference in the film genres with the Rom-Com's they tell you what's going on, in this film in the opening we haven't hand much speech at all which is good for keeping your audience interested and we have had more serious music and the sound of the waves crashing along with the thunder which make sit more easier to focus on the action.
We then from there cut straight into the action unlike some other movies, its already mixing things up and building tension, in the first five minutes, i think its interesting how the title sequence is so much shorter in a thriller than it is on a Rom-Com,
